Treatise on Audio Veritae Study

In the practice of regular, disciplined and sober meditation, we become aware of what I enjoy knowing as the audiosphere.  From the Christian perspective, I meditate in the Light of the Blessed Trinity, a Beloved Child of GOD, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Sitting quietly each day amongst my many brothers and sisters in the Lord, I receive the gift of sober appreciation.

Especially dear to this pilgrim, is my ascent to artwork as it may please the Lord.  Especially dear as artwork, will be our dear music!

"Oh, music is so much less than what you are..."

Incredible String Band ( Michael Heron and Robin Williamson ) circa 1967 C.E. / A.D.

Indeed, I yet seek artwork, my Lord, but I am sober, drug free, unarmed, relatively chaste and not otherwise subject to arrest.  If You allow and I seek some allowance for Gospel concerns, perhaps this aspiration will take neither Richard nor Sabaoth hurtling toward Perdition.

So, as I begin to approach Mikrocosmos 1, 2 and 3 ( yet an illiterate listener ) I offer YHWH my sober music project realization.

My topic in this essay is what I call and understand as audio veritae.  Listening to the audiosphere in meditiation, I have become aware of what seems in this world a mighty and grand cosmic music ever such - tathata - as yet through transubstantial time surrounding the resting children, the insistent crickets riveting the nightly blanket through how many moments, my GOD?  What racial memory this cricket spans in Reality!  Let my Jesus Comfort me that I not be afraid of your cricket, YHWH Sabaoth!  Once, far ago, I anticipate that we had perhaps little Christian Grace while hearing crickets, crickets, crickets  a l l   n i g h t ...  Gentle Jesus, please let us now allow your Presence to reveal your Plan for crickets and the sounds they have surely made each long summer night as long as I can remember!

The point of audio veritae consciousness ( in GOD's Grace ) is that no sounds are trivial, no sounds are arbitrary, not even what many think of as noise is incidental.  The less conscious mind often tends to shut out what can be objectified as environmental trivia.  How often have I lived though the many moments and not heard the sound of Gabriel's Triumph and our Great Call Home!

Or on a less lofty but no less spirited level, how often have I clung to my egocentric ruminations instead of hearing the Naiades singing their will o' the wisp in each ineffable breeze of the Holy Spirit shifting the great baume.

Then we have our betrothed, our technology!  With insistent rumble ( in these early days ) we raise our inchoate yearning.  Our vehicles soar even at 25 miles per hour and our defibrillators beep for life, for life, for life as they may.  The great Karlheinz Stockhausen ( 1928 - 2007 ) wrote in his books about the evolutionary incentive to customize our machines such that every vacuum cleaner sings through electrosonic aspects of our Culture's zeitgeist while we tidy the room.

As we walk about, we can learn to be grateful for the Gift of GOD's sounds even as they are in truth.  Hear, Oh Israel, the Lord our GOD is One.  Beside Him there is no other.  Living in the Spirit, we find GOD's music in every breeze, in every waterfall, in human laughter, and yes, Boanerges!

In closing this brief reflection, I offer an insight on American Culture and our Lord's very human walk through this world He Saved.  I juxtapose two archetypal figures for consideration: Jesus in the marketplace ( the shambles as it were ) and a gathering of Mark Twain merchants sitting about the docks listening to perhaps a pre-dawn fish monger, or - to be honest rather than politically correct - the tobacco auctioneer.

"Do I stand the bargain holler?
Listen to the barter holler
Listen to the auctioneer"

R.E.M. / Auctioneer ( another engine ) circa 1983 C.E. / A.D.

This consideration of audio veritae is yet one of my favorites.  Truly it is ancient and the tradition at its best is humorous and enduring.  Sometimes I practice the discipline while listening to people share their stories or with more dire and prosaic insistence, while giving my considerate and oh so thoughtful nod to the next salesman.  The good townspeople listen to the spiel, glancing about with good humor as if to say, "That sure sounds good, mister.  Mighty good, yes sir, it does indeed sound, well...  probably a very good deal, to be sure - it does sound like something... yes, it may be that I might be willing to hear a bit more.  Can't say for sure that I'd be making a purchase so readily, y'know.  Got to think these things through, and make sure that I am indeed hearing the facts.  Maybe even pray on it some!  Can't be too hasty, I'm sure..."

The pilgrim's progress through this world of toils and snares brings him through many considerations and experiences that are indeed as the Siren's song to our Ulysses.  Ulysses demanded to be tied to the mast - to HEAR - but only our Holy Jesus could walk amidst the barter callers and not grasp death.  Little guys like Richard approach this scene with a spirituality of wearing life like a loose fitting garment.  We indeed hear the Siren's song, if we are listening.  Yet the lure of the world is really not to be taken too seriously.  Taken with a grain of salt, yes, but I am not my thoughts.  Indeed this world is passing away and the desire for this world is passing away.

For the audio veritae artist, this panopoly - the audiosphere of our coinage - is an abundance, nuance and treaty, IF we indeed walk where the Saints have trodden.  From magnetic tape technology onward we have increasingly maleable access to the great nature diety's murmuring.  Mind you, though, this utterance is never to be understood as a fatalism, as it was for pre-Christian Narcissus drowning in his own reflection.  In the light of the Blessed Trinity, the audiosphere is safe enough.  If you don't like the consideration, you can always watch TV, but that - for the audio veritae artist - is subject for another treatise.  With regard to safe access to the audiosphere, this artist advocates hearing Saint Francis preach the Gospel to the birds.  It's Holy and Miraculous and ineluctably Salvific!

"6 And I heard as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying: Two pounds of wheat for a penny, and thrice two pounds of barley for a penny, and see thou hurt not the wine and the oil."

Apocalypse 6 ( circa 100 A.D. )
Douay Rheims translation _The Holy Bible_ / English language based on Saint Jerome's _Biblia Sacra Vulgata_

Here I favor a view of Jesus walking through the marketplace on so many days during his Earthly sojourn, walking amidst his own in daily life happenstance, the considerate aleatory of conversation, the same principles - listen to the barter holler - hearing and loving in his Holiness.  Of course, I do not remotely grasp for the reflections of our Crowned Head, but I can pray, meditate and study the written Gospel - and listen to Saint Francis preach the Gospel to the birds.

Sold, American!
